Calling All Fashionistas...I Need Advice!

As many of you know, this summer I will be interning at a fashion magazine in New York City. And although I'm excited, I'm more than a little intimidated. After finding out that I had received the position and the initial shock wore off, my mind immediately switched into wardrobe freakout mode. It went a little something like this: "Ohmygosh I need a new wardrobe. Ohmygosh, I'm so not cool enough for this. What do people at fashion magazines wear? I need new clothes. But what would I even buy?! Ohgosh, I need to make a list. Okay scratch that, I need to make seven zillion lists..." And almost two months later, I still haven't quite mastered the list of what I need for this summer. And since I don't have Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha here to guide me, I'm enlisting all of you. So tell me, what would be your must-have items for a summer in the city at a fashion magazine? I'm not looking to completely overhaul my closet, just add a few versatile pieces that can go a long way. I know I still have a month and a half before the big first day, but being the type-A planner that I am, I want to get started on it now! Plus, it's an excuse to go shopping! I would love to hear from each and every one of you...what would be your top picks? Comment, tweet at me, or email--anything really...I just sincerely want to hear what you guys think :)

Fashionable Reading

20110317_3

So I'd be lying if I said I've worn anything not resembling workout clothes since I've gotten home for spring break. I always have the best intentions to get so much done on my breaks from school, but usually my inner lazy girl kicks in. Hopefully I'll have an outfit post for you tomorrow? Until then, I'll be catching up on some fashionable reading. There was no time during finals to read my magazines, so I'm happily devouring them now that I have abundant free time. I also got these three books from the library. "Wear This, Toss That" seems like it's going to be a dud, but the other two look promising. What are your favorite fashion reads?

Big City, Big News

What I'm wearing: H&M blazer, Loft Top, J.Crew Minnie pants, Tahari heels (2007), J.Crew bracelet, Vintage ring

In case you hadn't guessed from my previous post, my little roadtrip took me New York City. It was the quickest trip ever, but it ended exactly how I had hoped: I was offered an internship! I found out Friday that I was being considered for a position at a fashion magazine, and it's been absolutely killing me to keep this a secret from you guys (I didn't want to jinx myself before the interview!). I'm feeling a huge range of emotions right now: excited, relieved, grateful, a little nervous...but mostly excited! I feel so fortunate that somehow my resume and cover letter made it into the hands of the right people and that they were impressed. Little old me, just a girl from Ohio, is going to be interning at a fashion magazine! It feels surreal. When I found out about the interview, one of the first things I thought was "What am I going to wear?!" So clearly a little shopping was in order. After hearing Linda rave about the J.Crew Minnie pants awhile back, I had to give them a try. And I really like them! I topped them off with a top from Loft and a loose blazer from H&M. I completed the look with my favorite heels (I've had them for years and I'm still in love) and my J.Crew cuff bracelet. I felt really good, and I think that came across in my interview. After finding out I received the internship (I got an email about 10 minutes after leaving the office), I went to Crumbs with my mom and dad to celebrate.

No trip to NYC is complete without a trip to Crumbs! Now I'm headed back to Columbus, and I can't wait to share my good news! Bye, bye New York...see you again in June!
*Also, if anyone has NYC housing suggestions, I'm all ears!
