Day 16- Snowed In

day 16

December 12, 2010 001
What I'm wearing: Old Navy long sleeve tee, Target scarf, Thrifted belt, Gap Always Skinny jeans, Nine West boots, Vintage earrings, Vintage bracelet, Forever 21 bangles

I'm finally home in Cincinnati! And not a minute too soon, since we have been getting hit by snow ever since I arrived home last night. I've spent today helping my mom decorate the tree while enjoying watching the snowfall. I also took a nice, long nap...oh, how I love you winter break! I also took an outfit picture for the first time in a week. I've been wanting to try the belted scarf look for awhile now, but every time I tried it, it just didn't look right. So I decided since I had all the time in the world today, I was going to conquer it. I used Sydney's scarf tutorial, and I think it turned out rather cute. And don't let the little amount of snow in these pictures fool you; its been coming down steadily all day and we are now snowed in because the streets are a mess. I have a night of hot chocolate and ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas ahead. Oh, how I love this time of year :)

Heading Home For The Holidays

roadtrip

Tomorrow I will be packing up and heading home for the holidays. Unfortunately, I won't be wearing a black fluffy tutu or have luggage as cute as the girl above, but I'll be happy to be home all the same. Normal blogging will resume Sunday; thanks for sticking with me through my little finals week hiatus!

It's that Time of Year: Winter Break is Here!

It's official...I'm finally on winter break! Its been a pretty brutal quarter, so I'm beyond excited to go home to Cincinnati and enjoy some "me" time. Here is what is on my agenda:

1. Watch as many Christmas movies as possible. Love Actually, The Santa Clause, Elf, and Home Alone 2 are among my favorites.

2. Visit the Wedded Perfection: Two Centuries of Wedding Gowns exhibit at the Cincinnati Art Museum. No I'm not getting married anytime soon, but I still think this exhibit sounds really interesting.

3. Do some thrift/vintage shopping. A friend from class let me in on a little secret and told me the best Goodwill to go to in Cincinnati, so I'm excited to check it out.

4. Finally finish The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which I started back in August. Needless to say, I've been a little busy.

5. DIY's galore! I've been wanting to get crafty for a few weeks now but haven't had time with finals. I'm excited to try some ideas from Erica Domesek's book P.S.-I Made This as well as some other projects I've found around the web, like this one from the blog The Tortoise and the Hare

rosette necklace
I've been wanting to make my own rosette bib necklace after seeing the one I talked about in my last post about Etsy. If it turns out okay, I'll be sure to share pictures :)

6. Finally getting caught up on outfit pictures and finishing the 30 for 30! My goal is to be done by Christmas (I want to be able to wear any presents I may be getting on Christmas day!)

7. Celebrating my two year anniversary with the boy! As now, the plan is to spend a romantic evening in Columbus, hitting up all of our favorite places.

8. Vegging out! I can't wait to just relax and enjoy this time of year.

What are your big plans for this holiday season?

Dear Santa,
I've recently developed an obsession with all things Etsy. I literally can spend hours clicking around on that site, finding so many amazing treasures. Since I've been good this year, I thought I would tell you (and anyone else who may want to buy for me...wink, wink) what I've had my eye on:

rosette bib necklace
Rosette Bib Necklace by Adamsblankie
*They come in a bunch of different colors and prints!

Olivia Cowl
Olivia Cowl from Taylor House
*I saw a similar scarf on Sydney of The Daybook, and I absolutely adore it!

charm bracelet
Clock charm bracelet by GraceFeatheredNest
*What a great take on the charm bracelet!

button necklace
Afternoon Tea necklace by DirtyBButtons
*I love all things buttons, so this necklace is right up my alley!

I could go on and on and on, but unfortunately its finals week, and I should be studying right now. Santa, can you bring me A's on all my exams as well? I know I'm being greedy, but I promise I've been good this year!

Love, Kate

Day 15- The Half-Way Point

What I'm wearing: J.Crew beaded cardigan, Old Navy long sleeved tee, J.Crew wool mini, Target tights, J.Crew flats, Tiffany's bracelet (gift), Self-made earrings

I'm officially half-way through the 30 for 30 challenge! This time around it's taking a particularly long time due to my class and work schedule, but I'm still have a lot of fun with it. Here are some of my thoughts so far on the 30 for 30 challenge, round 2:
1. It's a lot more fun remixing this time of year when there are so many layering options to choose from. Summer was a lot more challenging.
2. This challenge can actually make life much simpler. For instance, I wore the outfit above to my honor fraternity's end of the quarter banquet on Friday. Normally, I would have stressed over what to wear, but the decision is a lot easier when you only have 30 things to choose from.
3. So thankful I included my gray J.Crew flats; I'm not quite sure how I survived the last challenge without them!
4. I love how many fabulous fellow 30-for-30ers I've found through this challenge. I really love the sense of community that goes along with blogging!

Thanks for following Best Foot Forward and supporting me during my second 30 for 30 challenge. The last 15 days are always harder than the first, so keep the great support coming! You guys are the best :)

Day 14- Putting On The Glitz

Last night, I attended a fundraiser for the fashion student organization at my school. It was a great evening filled with friends, fabulous clothes, and fashiontinis (our very own fashion martini!). The theme was "Putting on the Glitz", so a sparkly dress was a must. I swapped this little number into my 30 items in exchange for my navy American Apparel skirt which I have yet to wear during the challenge.

The formal wear segment of the show

This is the first sequined dress I've ever owned, and I had a lot of fun wearing it. The only drawback? The sequins were rather scratchy and gave me a rash all over my arms. Thankfully, I have some different ideas of how to wear it later in the challenge, so stay tuned! I'm almost halfway through the challenge; this is where things start to get a little interesting. Next week is finals week, so bear with me through some comfy, casual outfits. How is everyone else feeling about the challenge so far?

Day 13- Soft and Cuddly

Phewwwwwwwww. That was me sighing a huge sigh of relief. This week has been crazy busy, but I've finally made it to the fun part. Tonight I will be attending the quarterly fashion show for my university's fashion organization. I'm excited to wear my sparkly dress I wrote about here; I will be sure to post pictures tomorrow!

What I'm wearing: Gap sweater, Gap Always Skinny jeans, Nine West boots, Thrifted belt, Vintage earrings

It's been bitterly cold the past two days, so this morning I reached for the warmest item in my 30 for 30. I love how soft and cuddly this sweater is; its perfect for days like this. Well I have to go get ready for the show. Have a good weekend, everyone!
